Gone are the days when we used to wear helmets that only had a badge of being a ‘helmet’ rather than being a true life saver. Time passed and so did technology and here we are now wearing full face helmets, proper CE armour, etc.
Smart helmets are the future and will surely gain popularity in the years to come
Here is some of the upcoming technology.
REAR VIEW CAMERA:
Manufacturers have begun testing in their respective R&D for various tech’s and one of them is this. Installing rear view camera would be providing you a continuous rear view inside the visor of your helmet. The little screen would be helpful in eliminating the blind spots for riders, thus, making riding more safe.
GPS:
Till now , riders had been using GPS units mounted on the handle bar or some area nearby to it. They had to stop and search and constantly look for the GPS routing. With this tech, an inbuilt GPS would be installed inside the helmet thus providing an on screen (vison) view of the route you need to follow, hence making everything hands free. Also this GPS tech would be using voice command user interface system.
ON BOARD DASH:
This technology is being developed to give you an simultaneous view of the stats for your motorcycle on the small screen in your visor. This would keep you updated about the speed, gears, temperature of bike etc. to you without having the need of looking in the cockpit of bike. Hence, making it safer and less hectic to ride.
WIRELESS & AUDIO CAPABILITIES:
The helmets come with bluetooth functionality and built in speakers. Some models even boast a voice command system. If this is true it will be the most comprehensive hands-free experience we have ever seen. This will allow riders to use their devices without having to take their eyes off the road, or their hands off the handlebar.
Smart helmets provide riders with unparalleled convenience and possibly a higher level of safety that may one day might become a standard. While the idea seems amazing these helmets will definitely encounter challenges when entering the market. The helmet with its ambitions of being multi functional needs to: be comfortable for the rider (not pack on too much weight with all its gadgets), not compromise the structural integrity of the helmet (be D.O.T. approved), and retail at a reasonable price.
