American SUV brand Jeep recently held the Jeep 4xe Day. At the event, Jeep laid out its electrification plans and mentioned it plans to launch 4 all-electric SUVs in the next 3 years. These new electric SUVs will cater to the North American as well as European markets. Jeep also revealed 3 new SUVs – Recon, Wagoneer S and the Avenger EV. And although Jeep mentioned that the Recon and Wagoneer S will be available in the U.S. and Europe, the Avenger EV will only be for the European market.
Jeep plans to have 50 per cent of cars it sells in America to be electrified by 2030. However, in Europe, Jeep is aiming for 100 per cent. Thus, the Avenger is a key product in reaching that target. First previewed at the Stellantis Dare Forward presentation, Jeep will build the Avenger EV at its plant in Tychy, Poland. The Avenger EV will slot below the Jeep Renegade in the brand’s European lineup.
Jeep has not revealed pricing for its smallest SUV yet. But Jeep says that European buyers will be able to place an order for the Avenger EV from 17th October 2022. This is also when Jeep will fully reveal the Avenger EV at the Paris Motor Show.
Jeep Avenger EV – Highlights
Jeep will position the Avenger as an urban SUV more than a rock-crawler. However, being a Jeep, it will still offer impressive ground clearance and break-over angles. Jeep also says its smallest SUV will get a modern interior and all the technologies one expects today. Practicality will also be a priority, and it will likely offer plenty of space for passengers as well as luggage.
Sources suggest that the Avenger EV will come with a two- or all-wheel drive option, depending on the variant. Customers will be able to choose from one 94 PS electric motor or two of them. Jeep could also offer a hybrid version at a later stage. Though the hybrid version will have identical styling to the EV model, Jeep will likely build it on the Stellantis CMP platform.
Jeep did mention that the Avenger EV will offer a range of 400 km on a single charge. Head of Jeep Europe, Antonella Bruno, said that the all-new Avenger will offer the same capability as a Jeep but in the right size for the European market. He also stated that the fun, modern and emotional SUV would appeal to a lot of customers looking for a compact, capable, modern and all-electric Jeep alternative to the current options in the market.
