Written by Nizam Shaikh

TVS is planning to develop a new motorcycle with BMW Motorrad which will debut in 2020, according to a media report. The bike will be sold alongside the TVS Apache RR 310. BMW Motorrad bikes, the G 310 R and the G 310 GS are currently produced at the TVS plant in Hosur, India. The new bike will be sharing its hardware with the Apache RR 310, which shares its engine with the BMW G 310 series.

The engine on the Apache RR 310 is a reverse-inclined, 4-stroke, 4-valve, 312.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor producing 34 PS of power and 23.3 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed gearbox. The chassis is a split type trellis frame and rides on inverted cartridge-type telescopic forks on the front and a monotube gas assisted floating piston shock absorber on the dual arm aluminium swingarm on the rear. The motorcycle has a wheelbase of 1365mm and a seat height of 810mm.

The Apache RR 310 weighs 169.5 kg (kerb) and has an 11 litres fuel tank capacity. The stopping power comes from a petal-type 300 mm disc on the front and petal type 240 mm disc on the rear equipped with a dual-channel ABS. The Apache RR 310 can do a top speed of 160 kmph with a 0-60 kmph in 2.93 seconds.

The new TVS bike is expected to share all the above hardware and will be tuned according to the type of bike TVS decides to produce. The changes are expected to be primarily in the gear ratios and suspension travel as per the design of the new bike. For example, if its an adventure tourer type of bike the front suspension will have a longer travel as compared to the Apache RR 310. Also the gear ratios and the engine will be tuned accordingly. Other features that are expected to be included are LED headlamps, fully digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, etc.

The current TVS Apache RR 310 is priced at INR 2,17,348 ex-showroom, Mumbai. and the new TVS bike may be priced close.
