All-new BSVI Honda Activa 6G is the making

Written by Nizam Shaikh

India’s most popular scooter, the Honda Activa is going to get an update to comply with the new BSVI emission standards. The Honda Activa is the best selling scooter in the Indian market and customers have big expectations as Honda has already set the bar high.

The new-generation Activa is expected not only to be upgraded in terms of the engine but also come loaded with a lot more features. One such feature is expected to be Bluetooth connectivity as the competition is really high in this segment and more and more brands are offering different features. The brand has followed the trends in the market and is expected to come with more advanced features than the current model.

The outgoing Honda Activa 5G is powered by a fan-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, 109.19cc engine producing 8 BHP of power and 9 Nm of torque coupled to a CVT belt driven transmission with a centrifugal dry clutch. The Activa has a underbone frame with a spring loaded hydraulic type suspension on the front and rear. The brakes are mechanical drum type and equipped with CBS. The scooter weighs 109 kg (kerb) and has a fuel tank capacity of 5.3 litres.

The next generation Honda Activa is expected in early 2020 before the BSVI norms come into effect, which is from 1st April 2020. It is currently being sold at INR 56,255 for the Activa 5G STD and INR 58,120 for the Activa 5G DLX and comes in eight attractive colour options.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India have sold 30,08,344 units in the Fiscal year 2019, it is actually a decline from the 31,54,030 units sold in FY 2018. But still, the Honda Activa remains on top of the Indian two-wheeler market.

The new-gen 2020 model is likely to be called Activa 6G.

All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Mumbai.
