Indian automotive giant Tata Motors has announced its overall sales report for FY2022 and the month of December 2021. The total sales numbers suggest that Tata Motors has successfully overtaken Hyundai to become India’s second-largest car manufacturer in December. During this month, Tata Motors sold 35,299 units which is a 50% increase in growth compared to December 2020. In comparison, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) managed to sell 32,312 units in the month of December 2021.
Tata Motors also showcased an impressive overall quarterly sales figure as it sold 99,002 units in Q3 FY2022. This Q3 FY2022 sales figure suggests that Tata Motors showcased a 44% increase in growth compared to Q3 FY2021. Meanwhile, in December 2021, the Indian automaker sold 2,255 units of EVs and 5,592 EVs in Q3 FY2022. Overall, Tata Motors sold 3,31,178 units annually, whereas Hyundai registered a 19.2% overall growth in CY2021.
Tata Motors Current & Future Plans
Tata Motors has big plans for 2022 and recently unveiled a teaser for its new upcoming car in India. Via its official Twitter handle, Tata Motors’ teaser suggests the arrival of a CNG-powered version of the Tata Tiago hatchback. For the headline used on the teaser, the brand has highlighted the letters C, N, and G as a hint. Along with this reveal, reports suggest that Tata Motors is currently working on producing petrol-powered, automatic versions of its products.
Most notably, the automaker has been reportedly developing and testing the automatic variant of the Altroz for the Indian market. With the automatic Altroz reportedly in its final testing stage, Tata Motors will likely introduce the premium hatchback sometime in 2022. Meanwhile, the Indian automaker has also been spotted testing the turbo-petrol variants of the Safari and Harrier SUVs.
According to spy shots, the camouflaged SUVs are featuring a new 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol motor with manual or automatic transmissions. Along with an upcoming CNG version of the Tiago hatchback, Tata Motors may also introduce a CNG-powered Punch in India. The camouflaged test mule has been spotted in Tamil Nadu and will sport a lower power output than its petrol counterpart.
