The Mahindra Thar Roxx has quickly become a favorite among SUV enthusiasts, accounting for 45% of all Thar sales in India. Since its September 2024 launch, the five-door Thar Roxx has significantly boosted Mahindra’s sales, offering greater practicality and enhanced features compared to the three-door Thar.
Sales surge and market impact
Mahindra has sold 259,921 units of the Thar lineup since the second-generation model debuted in October 2020. The introduction of the Thar Roxx has accelerated sales, with the SUV averaging 6,431 units per month, compared to 3,853 units for the three-door Thar.
In FY2025, Mahindra sold 84,834 units of the Thar lineup, with the Roxx contributing 38,590 units in just six months. This surge has prompted Mahindra to increase production capacity, ensuring the Roxx meets growing demand.
Why buyers prefer the Thar Roxx
The Thar Roxx offers several advantages over the three-door Thar:
- More spacious cabin with improved rear-seat accessibility.
- Enhanced ride comfort, thanks to penta-link rear suspension and Frequency Dependent Damping.
- Advanced features, including ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Thar Roxx: real-world performance and customer feedback
Owners have praised the SUVs refinement, noting minimal driveline vibrations and improved sound insulation. Long-distance drivers report comfortable seating and reduced motion sickness, making the the vehicle ideal for road trips.
Fuel efficiency varies based on driving conditions:
- 12-13 km/l on highways with brisk driving.
- 14-16 km/l on sedate long-distance trips.

Future prospects and production expansion
Given the strong demand, Mahindra has confirmed plans to increase production capacity for the Thar Roxx and XUV 3XO by 3,000 units per month. The company is also working on a facelift for the three-door Thar, expected to launch in FY2026.
