Ford F-150 Lightning can do wonders and is one of the most capable SUVs out there. But, ever heard of a car powering your home? Yes, Ford’s all-electric F-150 Lighting pick up has the ability to power customers’ homes. And this is the first time that a car in the US has this facility. This might prove to be a great feature for the ones who face power outage issues more often. To enable this, Ford and F-Series are partnering with Sunrun, the nation’s leading solar company.
This will enhance home energy management by leveraging the substantial onboard battery capability of the all-electric F-150 Lightning. As per reports, Americans experienced the most power interruptions on record in 2020. But now, customers can use their F-150 Lightning pickup truck to maintain their routines during brief or extended outages.
More Details
Ford will use Sunrun’s equipment as the preferred installer of F-150 Lightning home charging solutions. As part of this, customers will get an 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro and Home Integration System. Using this, the F-150 Lightning can store and supply power to homes in a variety of ways. Alongside this, Sunrun will provide home solar options to customers in select areas for the ones interested in leveraging more renewable energy. Ford’s Intelligent Backup Power, making its debut on F-150 Lightning, gives customers the ability to use bidirectional power technology. With this, the customers can provide energy to their homes during an outage. This will particularly become handy, especially in outrages during storms and heatwaves.
This F-150 Lightning extended-range battery system can store 131 kilowatt-hours of energy and deliver up to 9.6 kilowatts of power. This is a much cleaner, quieter, more efficient way when compared to gasoline-powered generators. This is a perfect investment for the ones where power outage is a very common occurrence. Ford is one of the largest car makers in the US market and has come up with innovations like this to keep up with the competition. And this as well, we expect more customers to join the Ford brand and boost its sales further.
