Citroen is all over in the Indian automotive news, and for good reasons. With the recent unveiling of its C3 hatchback, the brand has introduced itself to a new segment. As it stands, Citroen has some big plans for our country. The C5 Aircross that received a facelift update overseas will arrive in India by September 2022. C5 was the car with which Citroen made its debut in India. The vehicle came in via the SKD route, and the updated model will follow the same path.
Engine And Powertrain Options
C5 Aircross has dumped its 2.0-litre diesel power unit for the overseas market. And hence it gets the 1.5-litre diesel, petrol and a petrol-hybrid powertrain option. But for India, as reports suggest, the SUV will continue to get the 2.0-litre 177hp rated diesel engine. Citroen is phasing out its diesel engines, as is also the case with other car manufacturers.
The upcoming C3 hatchback too will only get petrol engine options, although an electric version is also in the plans. But given the love for diesel of us Indians, Citroen will stick with the 2.0-litre unit. This could also prove pivotal and the USP for C5 Aircross against its competition. The engine matches the characteristics of the smooth 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, thus enabling a much more relaxed driving experience.
More Changes Both Inside And Outside
The most prominent update visible to the eyes is the conventional-looking nose that replaces the split-headlamp look of the current trim. The new set of headlights gives the vehicle a much-refreshed look. On the back, we only see updated tail lamps.
Big changes on the inside, the most notable one being the 10-inch touchscreen. The air-con vents are now more conventional-looking, thus matching the exteriors perfectly. C5 Aircross replaced the gear lever for the automatic gearbox with a toggle switch unit and revised the switchgear for other functions. To add to the convenience, C5 Aircross now has more USB ports and a wireless charging port in the cabin.
