BYD Yuan Pro EV is a Ford EcoSport lookalike

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Why are we not surprised? Chinese technology company BYD has introduced the new BYD Yuan Pro EV in the Chinese market. The BYD Yuan Pro EV looks like a Ford EcoSport rip-off. And though the exteriors of the compact SUV are heavily inspired by the EcoSport, under the hood, the Yuan Pro EV, like its suffix, gets an electric powertrain.

BYD Yuan Pro EV – Powertrain Specifications

Powering the Yuan Pro EV is a 136 Hp/210 Nm electric motor that powers the front wheels of the compact SUV. The BYD Yuan Pro EV comes with two battery options. A 38.9kWh battery can propel the EV for 301 km on a single charge and another 50.1 kWh battery that claims a range of 401 km on a single charge.

BYD Yuan Pro EV – Design Highlights

While the Yuan Pro EV and the EcoSport may appear similar in design, the EV is longer than the inspiration by ~400mm. The Yuan Pro EV also comes with a longer wheelbase which is well over 2.5 metres. The car also comes with a chrome grille, multi-projector headlamps and a decent amount of chrome. But the front, sides, roof rails, the tailgate-mounted spare wheel and the tail lamp styling are all similar to the Ford EcoSport. The character lines and body claddings are also similar to the American compact SUV.

BYD Yuan Pro EV – Interiors and Features

The BYD Yuan Pro EV comes with a multi-layered dashboard with a floating centrally-mounted infotainment system and digital instruments cluster. The car also comes with a flat-bottomed steering wheel with multiple controls and a chunky drive select knob. The Yuan Pro EV also comes with ABS and EBD, Traction Control System, Electronic Brake Assist, Electronic Safety Program, etc.

BYD is not likely to retail the Yuan Pro EV electric compact SUV outside of China.
