In a bid to make the two-wheel experience safer, BMW has started developing SOS technology for their upcoming motorcycles. Known as ‘Intelligent Emergency Call System’, this technology will enable the motorcycle to self contact the nearest road safety agencies to reach the rider/motorcycle in case of an accident.
Various sensors such as braking-angle sensors will be deployed over motorcycles that will gather the information about the intensity of crash. In case of a serious crash, the system will automatically make an immediate call to the BMW call centre (where rider could speak in his/her native language). This call won’t be cancelled and the initiated call be visible through the digital console.
In case of a minor accident, a delay of 25 seconds will be made by system before it calls automatically. This call could easily be disconnected by the use of ‘SOS’ button present on handlebar. Also, rider can manually make call with the use of button. A microphone and loudspeaker that will be installed on the right side of the handlebar.
This system will work after connecting to a mobile network and according to BMW this will help the safety agencies to work 50% faster than regular routine.
BMW plans to install this tech on all of their bikes from 2018 while their cars already have this feature.
With increasing number of superbikes, this feature could help save a life.
