The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) has released crash test ratings for some cars. Today we will be looking at the 2022 Range Rover Sport. The popular SUV scored 32.4 points or 85% in the adult test and 24 points or 100 % in the child occupant tests. Read the full result here.
2022 Range Rover Sport Adult Occupant Protection Result
In the front impact tests, dummy reading for the rear passenger’s chest indicated as marginal while other areas were well or adequately protected.
Dummy reading for the knees and femurs of both the front occupants indicated good protection. That said, Land Rover didn’t show that similar protection would be offered to occupants of different sizes and those sitting in different positions. Hence received a penalty for this fact. Further, the bodyshell remained stable and was capable of further loading.
In the side impact as well as the side pole tests, all critical areas were well protected. The Range Rover Sport scored maximum points in this test. Control of the excursion – that is the extent to which a body is thrown to the other side when hit from the opposite side – was adequate. Apart from this, the 2022 Range Rover Sport comes with a ‘Post-Crash Braking’ system that automatically applies the brakes to prevent secondary colissions.
That said, the car being heavy, as revealed that in the deformable barrier test, the Range Rover Sport would be an aggressive impact partner. This made the SUV lose some points. The SUV also gets an ecall system that alerts the authorities to a crash.
2022 Range Rover Sport Child Occupant Protection Result
The Range Rover Sport offered good protection for all the critical body areas of the 6 and 10-year old dummy in both the front and side barrier tests. The front passenger airbag can also be disabled to accommodate a rear-facing child seat in the passenger seat.
All the child restraints could be installed properly as expected.
2022 Range Rover Sport Vulnerable Road Users Result
In the pedestrian impact test, the head protection was good or adequate. The bumper offered good protection to the pedestrian’s legs while the protection to the pelvis was, however, poor. AEB system of the Range Rover Sport responded well to vulnerable users. It worked well with cyclists as well and avoided collisions in most cases.
2022 Range Rover Sport Safety Assists
The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system of the SUV worked as described. It performed well when tested against other vehicles. A seatbelt reminder is also fitted as standard for both the front and rear occupants. The car is also equipped with a system to detect driver fatigue. The lane assist system also works to get the car back into the center of the lane and in certain critical cases intervenes as well. The speed assistance system works and the driver can choose to set the limiter or let the system do so automatically.
