Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has completed 29 years in the country, marking a significant milestone with 12.7 million vehicles sold since its establishment on May 6, 1996. The company has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s automotive landscape, introducing iconic models like the Santro, Creta, and Ioniq 5.
A legacy of growth and innovation
Hyundai entered India with a vision of mutual progress, setting up its first integrated manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, in 1998. Over the years, the company has invested $6 billion to scale operations, reinforcing its commitment to the Indian market.
Expanding production capacity
To meet rising demand, Hyundai is preparing to commence operations at its new Talegaon facility in Maharashtra by Q4 2025. This expansion will increase Hyundai’s annual production capacity to 1 million units, ensuring faster deliveries and improved supply chain efficiency.
India’s leading car exporter
Hyundai has consistently been India’s top passenger car exporter, shipping 3.7 million units to over 150 countries. The company’s export milestones include:
- 0.5 million units in 2008
- 1 million units in 2010
- 2 million units in 2014
- 3 million units in 2020
