Suzuki Motorcycle India has recently released a teaser for its iconic Katana. The Katana originally debuted back in 1981. The Katana nameplate draws inspiration from a famed Japanese sword. Like the sword, the bike gets sharp yet functional styling. The company last updated the bike in 2022 to meet the Euro-5 emission norms. The model has been on sale in the international market for some time, and now, the Indian market will also finally get it.
Suzuki Katana Teaser – What Does It Show?
The teaser is nothing more than a short video Suzuki uploaded on social media. The video shows captions like ‘Unbelievable Precision’, ‘Uncompromising Craftmanship’ and more. More importantly, it clearly shows glimpses of the Katana. Thus, there is no need for any guesswork. The upcoming ‘New Street Legend’ will be the 2022 Suzuki Katana.
Suzuki Katana – Highlights
The Japanese bikemaker showcased the 2022 Katana at the EICMA 2021 Show in Italy. The original 1981 model was known for its unique styling, making it a retro icon. Suzuki resurrected the nameplate in 2019. The company gave it a modern engine and features but unique styling. In 2022, Suzuki updated the model with several styling and functional tweaks.
The 2022 Katana comes with gold-coloured forks, colour-coordinated wheels and grey-rear suspension. Internationally, Suzuki offers the 2022 Katana in two colour options. These colour options are – Solid Iron Grey and Metallic Mat Stellar.
The Katana uses the GSX-S1000 as its base. Hence, it shares a lot of components. The 2022 Katana uses a 999cc liquid-cooled four-cylinder engine which pumps out 152 PS at 11,000 rpm. Meanwhile, peak torque stands at 106 Nm at 9,250 rpm. The model also benefits from three engine mapping modes. The three modes are – A, B and C. Riders can alter the bike’s performance and response using these modes. The motor sends power to the road via a 6-speed gearbox. For 2022, the model also benefits from a bi-directional quickshifter.
Like the GSX-S1000, the Katana uses fully adjustable KYB upside-down forks. At the back, it uses a link-type monoshock suspension. The rear shock offers rebound damping and preload adjustability. The brake setup is the same as the GSX-S1000. The bike tips the scales at 215 kg. The seat height of the Katana is 825 mm, while the fuel tank capacity is 12 litres.
