German automotive giant Volkswagen has pulled the covers off its new ID5. and ID.5 GTX electric coupes. Inspired by the conventionally styled ID.4, the ID.5 SUV is the 3rd model introduced by Volkswagen for its EV portfolio. Volkswagen ID.5 & ID.5 GTX: Exterior Details
Volkswagen has ensured to give the ID.5 range of electric coupes an athletic look thanks to distinct exterior elements. The ID.5 gets 21-inch alloy wheels, whereas the GTX version gets exclusively designed 20-inch alloy wheels. Both cars feature an aerodynamic design with a black roof and anthracite C-pillar trims, which end with a rear spoiler.
Volkswagen offers the electric SUVs with its ‘IQ.LIGHT’ system as standard, which includes LED matrix headlights and the VW logo. Both SUVs also feature 3D-designed LED taillights along with integrated turn signals and a slim LED strip. The matrix lighting system enables the car to automatically control its main headlamps to prevent dazzling other drivers while driving.

The interior of the new electric SUVs remains identical to the ID.4 except for a 12mm reduced headroom. Volkswagen offers both SUVs with interior ambient lighting with 30 digital colours on the dash panel, mobile phone tray, and doors. The cars also get an AR-based heads-up display which showcases driving speed, speed limits, and turn-by-turn navigation. Volkswagen also offers both cars with a voice-activated infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, and a touch-sensitive climate control slider.
Volkswagen ID.5 and ID.5 GTX: Powertrain and Charging Details
Powering the standard ID.5 is a 77 kWh battery that sends power to a choice of two motors. The motor producing 174 PS enables the standard ID.5 to achieve a 0-100 kph time of 10.4 seconds. Meanwhile, the other motor produces 204 PS of power, which allows for a 0-100 kph time of 8.4 seconds.
Volkswagen claims that the ID.5 offers 520 km of range on a single charge thanks to improved aerodynamics. Similar to the ID.4’s 135 kW DC charging rate, the ID.5 achieves 80% charge within 30 minutes. The ID.5 GTX produces 299 PS of power thanks to an additional electric motor on the front axle. This allows the SUV to achieve a 0-100 kph time of 6.3 seconds and offers 489 km per charge.
