Honda has announced that the all-new 2023 Honda Civic Type R has set a new track record. The new record was set for the fastest front-wheel-drive car at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan. For the uninitiated, the Suzuka Circuit is a 5.807 km long motorsport racetrack in Mie Prefecture. The Suzuka International Racing Circuit has been home to the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, owned by the Honda Motor Co., LTD.
2023 Honda Civic Type R – Suzuka Track Record
The all-new Honda Civic Type R lapped Suzuka’s 3.6-mile figure-8 configuration with 18-corners in 2 minutes 23.120 seconds. The Honda Civic Type R final development car did the record-breaking lap on March 14. The brand reveals that the 2023 Civic Type R has broken the previous track record set by the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition by 1 second. The 2021 model limited edition Civic Type R is a lightweight, specially-tuned, track-focused version of the outgoing car.
2023 Honda Civic Type R – Highlights
While Honda has not revealed the full details of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R. The brand is likely to use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 310 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. The brand also revealed that the Civic Type R would come with the same chassis as the 11th generation Honda Civic. But, the Type R could come with a stronger chassis, stiffer suspension and may get uprated braking components.
Compared to the standard model, Honda is also likely to offer advanced aerodynamics on the Type R model, and images reveal a large spoiler on the back of the car. The performance-oriented model is also likely to come with air extractors on the hood and three centrally-exiting exhaust pipes, distinguishing the Type R version from the standard.
2023 Honda Civic Type R – Launch Timeline
Honda has revealed that the all-new Civic Type R will make its debut in Summer 2022.
