BYD’s latest model, the Sealion 7, has managed to score a full 5 out of 5 crash test ratings in the Euro NCAP. The recently released crash test results showcase the sturdy build quality of the Sealion 7. Read more below.

Facilitating and encouraging the safety factor for the electric vehicles, BYD’s Sealion 7 has scored a wonderful 5-star Euro NCAP crash test result. The tested car was a left-hand drive model ‘Comfort’ variant.

As per the official results shared by the crash test agency, the Sealion 7 has scored 87 per cent in adult occupant protection, 93 per cent in child occupant protection, 79 per cent for safety assist system, and 76 per cent for Vulnerable Road Users.

The front crash test result portrayed an ‘excellent’ result as the adult occupants were completely protected around knees and femurs. Meanwhile, the side-barrier crash test showcased that the rear passenger’s chest protection is ‘weak’ and needs to be improved.

However, the side barrier and pole crash test results were intact overall, thus offering the utmost protection to the passengers. Similarly, the child safety results are also staggering, as the EV is equipped with multiple safety features like ISOFIX seats and a Child Presence Detection system.

The Sealion 7 EV is equipped with a level 2 ADAS safety suite, which also has Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), lane keep assist and emergency lane keeping, speed limit recognition and intelligent speed assistance, and driver monitoring detection for fatigue.

The Sealion 7 was introduced in India in February 2025 for a starting price of Rs 48.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Our verdict

BYD is globally renowned for making world-class EVs that are efficient and safe. The new Sealion 7 is another example that shows the potential of BYD as an electric brand. BYD had earlier planned to set up its production facility in India, but this plan has now been restricted by the Indian government.
