Toyota Kirloskar Motor has released its sales report for January 2021. The carmaker sold a total of 7,328 units for the given period. The figure for the same period last year stood at 11,126 units. TKM mentioned that both the Toyota Glanza and the Urban Cruiser together clocked cumulative wholesales of over one lakh units. And this helped TKM tap 66 per cent of first-time buyers, especially in the tier-II and III markets. The recently launched Camry Hybrid has also received a positive response from the market. Another key offering in the form of Vellfire is also doing pretty well. This is targeted to a niche audience, specifically for those looking for a luxury people mover.
Glanza And Urban Cruiser Propel Toyota India’s Sale
Ever since Glanza and Urban Cruiser entered the Indian market, Toyota’s sales figure has received a significant boost. Under the global alliance with Suzuki, the carmaker shared, Baleno and Vitara Brezza with Toyota. Both the Glanza and Urban Cruiser are pretty much identical to their parent derivative. Maruti Suzuki recently unveiled the 2022 Baleno. And hence, we expect Toyota to also come up with the 2022 version of the Glanza. As per reports, the new Glanza based on the 2022 Baleno will arrive sometime in March this year.
Innova and Fortuner Continue Their Strong Run
After the exit of Ford from the Indian market, Fortuner has no real competitor. This will help Toyota to garner more sales for its flagship SUV in the Indian market. Innova continues to lead the MPV segment and expand Toyota’s business. Recently there was a new update suggesting that Toyota is looking to launch a new 7-seater C segment SUV. Although, we do not have any official update from Toyota India. But as per sources, if all goes good, we might see the SUV sometime in 2023. Toyota has now officially stopped taking bookings for the upcoming Hilux SUV in India. The response has been quite overwhelming, leading Toyota to take this decision.
