Key highlights
- KTM has increased the price of the RC 200 by INR 11,000, bringing its new ex-showroom price to INR 2.32 lakh.
- The price hike is linked to the OBD-2B compliance update, though the margin of increase suggests additional factors.
- Despite the hike, the RC 200 retains its 199.5cc liquid-cooled engine, producing 24.6 bhp and 19.2 Nm.
KTM India has revised the pricing of its RC 200, making the motorcycle INR 11,000 more expensive than before. The latest price update sees the RC 200 retailing at INR 2.32 lakh (ex-showroom), up from its previous price of INR 2.21 lakh.
Why the Price Hike?
One of the primary reasons for the price increase is the OBD-2B compliance update, which ensures the motorcycle meets stricter emission norms. However, industry experts believe that the INR 11,000 jump is too steep for just an engine update, suggesting that rising input costs and supply chain challenges may have contributed to the hike.
Performance and features
Despite the price revision, the RC 200 remains mechanically unchanged. It continues to be powered by a 199.5cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, producing 24.6 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 19.2 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox, ensuring sharp acceleration and high-revving performance.
The motorcycle is built on a steel trellis frame, suspended by non-adjustable WP Apex front forks and a rear monoshock. Braking duties are handled by a 320mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc, supported by dual-channel ABS.
Market position and rivals
The KTM RC 200 competes with the Yamaha R15 V4, Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, and Bajaj Pulsar RS200. While the price hike makes it one of the most expensive motorcycles in its segment, KTM’s aggressive styling, race-derived ergonomics, and premium components continue to attract buyers.
Expected impact on sales
Dealers have reported a drop in demand for the RC series over the past few months, with fewer inquiries since last year’s festive season. Many prospective buyers are waiting for the next-generation RC models, which are expected to debut at EICMA 2025. The price hike is expected to bring down the demand even more.
