Honda has registered a new patent for the PCX electric scooter in the Indian market. The electric scooter in the concept debuted at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi. The patents for the Honda PCX electric scooter is currently under examination. In the international market, the Honda PCX is also available with a mild-hybrid electric engine. Design and Styling The Honda PCX will come with maxi-scooter styling, featuring a large body and ergonomic seating. The PCX electric scooter features sleek headlamps with an upswept design, a tall windscreen visor, and full fenders in terms of design and styling. The electric maxiscooter also features an elegant tail section and wraparound combination taillamps. The scooter also comes with a split style footboard. Patent Design According to the patents, the PCX electric scooter will feature removable battery packs. The scooter will also come with a pivot mounted electric motor with a closed belt drive. While the battery will be a portable unit, the user will also be able to recharge it using the onboard charger. But as of now, details on the charging time or the battery capacity for the Indian market are still scarce. Honda PCX Powertrain & Mechanical Features The Honda PCX will be based on the ICE Honda PCX and come with telescopic front fork suspension, twin shocks on the rear, and a hydraulic disc brake on the front and a drum brake on the rear wheel. In the powertrain department, the Honda PCX electric sold in the international market comes with a 4.2kW (5.6hp) electric motor capable of propelling the scooter to a top speed of 60 kmph. Launch Timeline Currently, the launch timeline is unknown for the Indian market. Still, speculations are Honda might reveal more details of the launch as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic emergencies ease throughout the country. The Honda PCX electric will compete with premium electric scooters such as Ather 450x, Bajaj Chetak Electric, TVS iQube and also the Ola electric scooter.
