During the final week of November 2021, Porsche launched the Cayman GT4 RS sports car for the global market. The GT4 RS is the latest flagship of Porsche’s 718 Cayman range which has been heavily reworked to pursue lap times. Borrowing the engine from its current-gen GT3, Porsche has created the sports car by reworking the Cayman GT4.
Porsche has widened its sportscar portfolio even further by introducing the Cayman GT4 RS thanks to customer demand. Meanwhile, Porsche has revealed its plans of launching the Cayman GT4 RS in India, as it’s listed on their website. Porsche India has not revealed the prices as of yet and has not provided a concrete launch date as yet.
2021 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS: Detailed Highlights
The Cayman GT4 RS features a new carbon fibre reinforced bonnet with front wings to reduce the overall weight. Porsche has equipped the GT4 RS with new air vents on either side of the wheel arches for brake cooling. The brand also offers an adjustable front splitter with a swan-necked rear wing to drastically enhance the aerodynamics. Overall, the Cayman GT4 RS sports a power-to-weight ratio of 353 PS per tonne, thanks to these weight-saving measures.
Porsche has lowered the ride height of the GT4 RS by 30mm in comparison to the standard Cayman. to increase downforce by 10%. Along with a 10% increased downforce, the GT4 RS also sports a unique side-window design with built-in air vents. Additionally, for engine cooling, enhanced induction noise, and reduced weight, the GT4 RS features a plastic-reinforced engine cover. The GT4 RS comes with titanium-tipped exhausts and an optional Weissach package with a titanium roll-cage and 20-inch magnesium wheels.
2021 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS: Powertrain Highlights
The Cayman GT4 RS uses a motorsport-derived, 4.0-litre, naturally-aspirated, flat-six engine that produces 500 PS and 450 Nm. The sports car now produces 80 PS more than the standard 718 Cayman GT4 with a 9000 RPM redline. Along with a top speed of 315 kmph, the Cayman GT4 RS achieves 0-100 kmph time in 3.4 seconds. The Cayman GT4 RS sends its power through the rear wheels via a 7-speed PDK automatic gearbox with no manual option.
