Nissan India might be gearing up to introduce its highly anticipated Ariya electric vehicle (EV) to the Indian market. This move marks a significant step in Nissan’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle portfolio and bringing in more cars to India through the CBU route. This comes after Nissan India announced that they are restarting the CBU business when they launched the X-trail a few days ago.
Ariya EV
The Nissan Ariya, which made its global debut in 2020, is a testament to the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. Built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-EV platform, the Ariya combines cutting-edge technology with a sleek, modern design. The vehicle’s exterior features a coupe-like silhouette, a prominent shoulder line, and Nissan’s new ‘design’ shield, which includes an illuminated logo in select markets.
Powertrain and Performance
The Ariya EV offers a range of powertrain options to cater to diverse customer needs. Internationally, it is available with both single-motor, rear-wheel-drive and twin-motor, four-wheel-drive configurations. Customers can choose between two battery packs: a 63 kWh pack delivering 217 hp and 300 Nm of torque with a range of 402 km, and an 87 kWh pack offering 242 hp and 300Nm of torque with a range of up to 529 km. The top-spec 87kWh variant boasts 306 hp and 600 Nm of torque, providing a range of up to 513km. India, being a budget-conscious market might see the 63 kWh variant coming to its shores.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the Ariya EV is designed to impress with its clean, minimalistic aesthetic. The dashboard is dominated by two large 12.3-inch screens, which handle most of the vehicle’s functions through a unique haptic control setup. Higher variants come equipped with a heads-up display and a premium Bose audio system. The Ariya also features advanced driver assistance technologies, including an enhanced version of Nissan’s ProPilot system, ensuring a safe and comfortable driving experience.
India Launch Details
Nissan plans to position the Ariya at the top end of its Indian lineup, targeting the niche high-end SUV market. The company has already imported the first batch of 50 units, which will be sold as full imports. This strategic move follows the recent introduction of the X-Trail SUV in India, further solidifying Nissan’s presence in the premium segment.
