MG Motor India & Siemens together for a Sustainable future

Written by Rohit Tonapi

MG Motor and Siemens have announced their collaboration to develop innovative digital solutions. This will help to conserve energy and build a sustainable future. MG Motor India will leverage Siemens’ digital technologies for this. The technologies will also include IoT, data analytics, Plant Simulation and MindSphere. Furthermore, this will help the company increase its productivity, save energy and reduce emissions and carbon footprint in its operations.

MG Motor became the world’s first OEM to use MindSphere and Plant Simulation as a closed-loop twin with this partnership. The software is able to connect plant assets and processes and provide insights into more streamlined paint processes. Thus, resulting in a 15 per cent increase in the future pre-treatment and electrocoating paint process.

MG Motor & Siemens Partnership – The Benefits

Siemens says it is excited about this development and partnership with MG Motor. The company, along with MG Motor, can create the digital twin of production. It allows the carmaker to connect the plant through automation. Furthermore, using this, MG can also monitor real-time operational performance. Applying these advanced analytics to real-time data in a closed-loop simulation environment also helps generate valuable insights. The combination of real and digital data also helps with continuous improvement.

The carmaker aims to drive change with innovation as a brand pillar and adhere to its CASE mobility vision. Such collaborations will also enable MG Motor to develop digital solutions and skills to improve productivity. These solutions will also help MG save energy, reduce emissions, enhance customer experience and drive growth.

MG Motor’s Other Industry & Segment Firsts

The British carmaker has introduced many firsts in the Indian market. MG’s Car-as-a-platform (CAAP) was an industry first in the country. CAAP is a unique on-demand in-car service and subscription-based model. Recently, MG also became the world’s first automotive brand to use ULTRAX Degreaser. The liquid alkaline degreasing cleaner will help the brand reduce 787 tonnes of CO2 annually. MG has also installed a 4.85 MW of wind-solar power plant to run its operations in the Halol manufacturing hub. Thus, saving 2 lakh metric tonnes of CO2 over 15 years.
