Mercedes-Benz has announced it will bring three all-electric luxury vehicles to India. The first of which is the AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ performance luxury saloon. The German luxury carmaker says it is charting an aggressive EV roadmap for the Indian market.

In addition to this, the brand also announced plans to create India’s largest fast-charging network. This network will consist of 60 kW super-fast DC chargers as well as 180 kW ultra-fast DC chargers. Mercedes-Benz claims its fast charging network will be the largest from a luxury carmaker and will cover 80 per cent of the entire country by the end of 2022.

Mercedes-Benz AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ – Variants, Pricing & Colour Options

The first variant to arrive in India is the AMG one, i.e. the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+. The brand has priced this high-performance electric saloon at INR 2.45 crore ex-showroom. The company also announced it will bring the standard EQS 580 next month. Unlike the AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+, Mercedes-Benz will locally assemble the EQS 580. Thus, expect it to carry a much lower price tag.

The AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ will be available in a total of 6 paint options, including 3 ‘MANUFACKTUR’ ones. These are – Nautic Blue Metallic, Graphite Grey Metallic, Obsidian Black Metallic, Designo Selenite Grey Magno, design Hyacinth Red Metallic and Designo Diamond White Bright.

At the front, it gets an exclusive black panel grille with vertical slats in chrome and an integrated Mercedes logo and AMG lettering. Below the grille, it gets a front splitter in gloss black with chrome trim.

On the sides, you notice its aerodynamic design, which has a drag coefficient of just 0.23. The wheels are 21-inch AMG light-alloy wheels and come in two options – Aero and Heritage. The sides also feature high-gloss side sills panels. At the back, it gets a body-coloured rear apron, an aerodynamic diffuser with six fins and a larger spoiler.

Mercedes-Benz AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ – Interior Highlights

The AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ debuts the German brand’s ‘Hyperscreen’ in India. The ‘Hyperscreen’ consists of 3 screens under one continuous glass panel, which makes up the entire dashboard area. At the centre sits a 17.7-inch infotainment display. Meanwhile, on either side, there are 12.3-inch screens. Mercedes-Benz says the MBUX UI and Hyperscreen are both the brand and nervous systems of the EQS. It has 12 actuators for haptic feedback, 24GB RAM, 8 CPUs, 46.4 GB/s memory bandwidth and AI learning capabilities.

Apart from this, the AMG version gets sportier touches across the cabin. This includes an Alcantara finish on the door pads and steering wheel and carbon fibre trim. Other highlights include a Head-Up Display, 3D Maps, Nappa leather upholstery and 64-colour ambient lighting. It also features a 15-speaker 710W Burmester 3D surround sound system.

The AMG version of the EQS uses a PSM motor at the front and back combined with a 107.8 kWh Li-ion battery pack. In India, Mercedes-Benz is also offering the AMG Dynamic Plus package as standard. Thus, it makes 761 HP of peak power and 1,020 Nm of torque. The latter is available with Race Start mode with boost function. It sends power to all four wheels via a fully-variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ AWD system. It also gets rear-axle steering for better manoeuvrability and stability.

The large 107.8 kWh battery pack and aerodynamics mean it can deliver between 529 km to 586 km on a single charge as per the WLTP cycle. This makes it the longest-range EV in India. The EQS also has a maximum recuperation power of 300 kW. As for charging, it comes onboard with a 22 kW standard charger. Additionally, it supports up to 200 kW DC fast-charging, which can top it from 10 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes.
