Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment will begin with the upcoming Y9T. Expected to launch in 2015, the Y9T has now been spotted testing with a full size loading deck.
Maruti is very optimistic about the Y9T for the Indian market; one because of the brands wide network across the country and secondly, because this new LCV will be the most fuel efficient in the segment. But Maruti seems to have a slightly different approach to the commercial vehicle segment, by setting up dedicated dealerships in the country which could be as less as 10. Still, the spare part availability shouldn’t be an issue.
Powering the Y9T will be the newly developed 800cc, twin-cylinder diesel motor capable of producing up to 35 PS of power. The LCV will have a haulage capacity of 1 tonne.
Maruti could name the Y9T as ‘Carry’ in India and the price is expected to be in the range of Rs. 3 – 4 lakh.
