Maruti Suzuki has the most number of cars on sale across two of their retail channels among all car brands in India. And with the new emission norms deadline approaching, Maruti Suzuki is also the leading car brand with maximum of their cars already compliant with a BS6 petrol engine. Maruti Suzuki has revealed that they have managed to sell more than 2 lakh cars with a BS6 engine which proves their commitment to the market, and environment.
Maruti Suzuki has achieved this 2 lakh sales milestone with the upgraded engines within 6 months since the first BS6 compliant vehicle rolled out. So far, the BS6 compliant, petrol-powered Maruti Suzuki range included the Alto 800, Baleno, WagonR 1.2L, Swift, Dzire, Ertiga, S-Presso & XL6. April 2020 is the deadline for all car manufacturers to have their cars BS6 compliant, and Maruti Suzuki has nearly their entire product portfolio ready to meet the new emission norms ahead of time,
Maruti Suzuki claims that their BS6 ready petrol engines will reduce NOx emissions by nearly 25%. These BS6 petrol engines can also be used with a BS4 grade fuel, so there is no need to worry when going out on long drives to remote locations. The brand has tested these BS6 engines for endurance with BS4 grade fuel, for a hassle free ownership to customers.
There have been rumours that Maruti Suzuki will not upgrade their diesel range of cars to BS6 emission norms, but we think this is unlikely as the brand will loose too much market share to competition. However, come April 2020, we will get a better picture of the engine compliance across the industry, for petrol and diesel powered cars.
