Maruti Suzuki India Ltd made headlines on Wednesday. The carmaker mentioned that it has now crossed the landmark 25 lakh units milestone of cumulative exports. This is since starting overseas shipments. Maruti Suzuki’s 2.5 millionth landmark vehicle was a Baleno. The 25th millionth unit was shipped from Gujarat’s Mundra Port to Latin America.
The landmark export of 2.5 million vehicles reflects upon Maruti Suzuki’s dominance in the export segment. It also speaks volumes of India’s manufacturing prowess. This feat showcases Maruti Suzuki’s unwavering stand and support of the Government of India’s flagship Make-in-India initiative. This move further enhances the government’s efforts to enhance vehicle exports.
Maruti Suzuki And Its Export Story
Maruti Suzuki first started its internation business with export shipments to neighbouring markets like Bangladesh and Nepal in 1986-87. Maruti Suzuki’s first big consignment of 500 units. This was shipped to Hungary in September 1987. As it stands, Maruti Suzuki currently exports to nearly 100 countries. This includes important markets in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East.
Starting from FY 1986-87, Maruti Suzuki’s exports have grown significantly. With its global reputation, Maruti Suzuki’s range of products has earned the acceptance and appreciation of global customers. This speaks of the carmakers’ high quality, superior technology, reliability, performance, and affordability.
Currently, with the export figures, Maruti Suzuki is one of the key exporters of passenger vehicles from India. Recently, Maruti Suzuki mentioned that it expects the sale of its premium vehicles to go up. The sales through the Nexa retail outlets show a positive trend to exceed the overall sales of Hyundai and Tata Motors by 2023.
Maruti Suzuki To Overtake Hyundai And Tata In Terms Of Export Figure
The company started its Nexa retail chain back in 2015. This was to create a differentiated experience and to sell Maruti Suzuki’s premium vehicles. It currently retails models such as Baleno, Ciaz, Ignis, XL6 and Grand Vitara. Nexa channel too recently crossed the cumulative sales milestone of 20 lakh units.
