On the eve of World EV Day, Mahindra & Mahindra has unveiled the all-electric XUV400 SUV in India. Mahindra says the XUV400 is perfect for personal car buyers who are looking to embrace the future. The all-electric XUV400 is also part of the Mahindra EV iconic brand XUV, which the brand announced recently in the UK. The all-electric XUV400 becomes the first EV from Mahindra to feature its twin peaks logo with a satin copper finish.

The unveiling of the all-electric XUV400 was the first step. Following this, Mahindra will launch the “XUV400 Fun Fest” for customers across 16 major cities in November. Mahindra also announced that the brand will display and offer test drives for the XUV400 from December 2022. Following this, in January 2023, Mahindra will reveal the prices and open bookings for its first all-electric SUV. Meanwhile, deliveries will start from the end of January 2023.

Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUV – Highlights

The brand designed the XUV400 to stand out on Indian roads. Thus, to help with this, it comes with a signature trim accent in a satin copper finish. The electric SUV also gets five exciting new colour options. These are – Arctic Blue, Galaxy Grey, Everest White, Napoli Black and Infinity Blue. The latter is also available with a dual-tone roof option in Satin Copper finish. The XUV400 also gets high-gloss alloy wheels with a diamond-cut high-contrast surface treatment.

The brand claims that the new XUV400 is a generously sized SUV. The electric SUV measures 4,200 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. Thus, size-wise it slots in the C-segment SUV category. The wheelbase offers occupants excellent legroom and cabin space. In addition to this, the XUV400 also offers a best-in-class boot space of 378 litres. With its 1,821 mm width, the XUV400 also boasts of being the widest electric SUV in the category. The additional width offers plenty of shoulder room to occupants.

The XUV400 comes with BlueSense Plus mobile app with over 60 connectivity features and smartwatch connectivity. This also enables OTA updates as well as smart route planning and machine learning-based driving and charging recommendations.

Mahindra XUV400 Electric SUV – Battery, Range & Performance

The XUV400 also has the performance to match its looks. The EV gets best-in-class 310 Nm of torque. Mahindra also claims it is the fastest accelerating non-luxury EV in the Indian market. The XUV400 is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 8.3 seconds. Meanwhile, the top speed stands at 150 kmph. The XUV400 will come with 3 driving modes – Fun, Fast and Fearless. These will alter the steering, throttle as well as regen response. There will also be a segment-first single-pedal drive mode. Mahindra calls this the ‘Lively mode’.

This thrilling performance will also last long as Mahindra claims a best-in-class range of 456 km on a single charge as per the Indian driving cycle. This is thanks to a 39.4 kWh battery pack that Mahindra built as per ISO standards to ensure the highest functional safety. The battery pack uses state-of-the-art Li-ion cells, which offer longevity as well as support fast charging. The battery also integrates a host of technologies. It gets a dual vent design for additional safety as well as the best-in-class cooling system. The battery pack also meets IP67 standards for dust and waterproofing.

Using a 50 kW DC fast charger, it takes only 50 minutes for the XUV400 to charge from 0 to 80 per cent. Meanwhile, using a 7.2 kW/32A outlet, the XUV400 takes 6 hours 30 minutes for a 0-100 per cent charge. At the same time, it takes 13 hours using a standard 3.3 kW/16A domestic socket.
