Maruti Jimny to go ‘Nomad’ in Japan!
The India-made Jimny is soon going to launch in Japan. It will be called Jimny Nomad and become the first-ever Jimny in 55 years of its existence in Japan, to be offered in a 5-door avatar. Moreover, it will have similarities to the Indian-spec model.
However, being a JDM (Japanese-spec) model, there will be certain changes to it. The Japanese Jimny 5-door will get the old K15B engine that generates 109bhp and 136Nm of peak power and torque. This engine will be offered with a 4-speed torque converter AT and a 5-speed MT gearbox option. Mind you, the Jimny comes loaded with the 4X4 drivetrain as standard.
In addition to the above changes, it will also come equipped with complete LED light packaging. Also, due to the Japanese strict safety norms, it will be offered with a standard 360-degree camera, ISOFIX seats, and six airbags.
With the launch of the Jimny Nomade in Japan, the little SUV will become available in 3-door and 5-door options along with different powertrains. As it will be positioned above the Kei car segment, Japanese taxation will lead to higher prices in Japan.

Our verdict
In a competitive market of SUVs, the Jimny 5-door has established itself well in select global markets including Australia. Now, the debut of the 5-door model in its home ground will be a proud thing for us, because it is manufactured by Indians.
