Lamborghini reveals Urus Performante, lighter & powerful

Written by Rohit Tonapi

Lamborghini has taken wraps off of the new Urus Performante. The SUV that helped Lamborghini redefine performance SUVs is now lighter, faster and more powerful. Lamborghini says the Urus Performante will take the performance and looks of its Super-SUV to the next level.

Ahead of its premiere, a camouflaged Urus Performante set a new record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in the production SUV category. Lamborghini’s Super-SUV completed the 20 km hill climb in 10:32.064. Thus, beating the previous record of 10:49.902 from 2018.

Lamborghini Urus Performante – Highlights

To distinguish itself from the standard Urus, the Performante gets a new aggressive bumper, a carbon fibre splitter and blacked-out air intakes at the front. The Urus Performante also gets a ventilated carbon fibre hood, which is available in body colour or visible carbon. Lamborghini will also offer a carbon fibre roof, just like a Huracan Performante and Super Trofeo.

On the sides, it gets carbon fibre wheel arches and new 22-inch or optional 23-inch lightweight wheels with titanium bolts. Lamborghini will also offer it with specially developed Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick tyres. The brand has also widened the track by 16mm. It also sits 20mm lower than the regular Urus.

At the back, it gets a larger spoiler which Lamborghini claims increases the downforce by 38 per cent. Lower down, there’s a new carbon fibre diffuser and carbon rear bumper. Furthermore, for the “characteristic Lamborghini resonance”, it also features a new Akrapovič titanium sports exhaust system.

On the inside, the Urus Performante gets black Alcantara seats with hexagonal accents, a flat-bottom leather/Alcantara steering wheel, and black anodised aluminium trim as standard. The company will also offer a Dark Package. It includes matte black switches and controls for an even stealthier look.

Lamborghini Urus Performante – Technical Specifications

The Urus Performante also gets a host of mechanical updates. Although it continues to use the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 from the Urus, it makes more power. The Urus Performante makes 666 PS of power, which is up by 16 PS and 850 Nm of torque. This enables it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.3 seconds. Meanwhile, the top speed of the Urus Performante stands at 306 kmph.

Lamborghini claims the Urus Performante has the highest number of carbon fibre parts in its segment. This helps it lose 47 kilos compared to the standard Urus. It also gives it the best-in-class power-to-weight ratio. Lamborghini has also recalibrated the steering system for more direct feedback and precise inputs. The differential is also optimised for better torque distribution. Lamborghini didn’t stop there. The brand has also revamped the drive modes and introduced a new RALLY mode. The latter increases the fun-to-drive quotient to a new level on dirt tracks, claims Lamborghini.
