Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has announced the launch of its first-ever electric scooter, the Honda Activa Electric, set to debut on November 27, 2024. The Activa Electric is expected to offer a range of 104 kilometers on a single charge in standard mode.
Key Features and Specifications
The Activa Electric will be available in two variants: Basic and Premium. The Basic variant will feature a TFT display, while the Premium variant will come with a multi-color screen that provides essential ride information, including battery charge status, range, speed, and selected riding mode. The scooter will also offer Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone pairing and music control.
The electric scooter is powered by a swingarm-mounted motor, similar to the architecture seen in other electric scooters in the market segment. The Activa Electric will also feature swappable battery technology, allowing for quick battery replacement at charging stations.
Electric Honda Activa Riding Modes and Technology
The Activa Electric will come with two riding modes: Standard and Sport. The Standard mode is designed for everyday commuting, offering a balanced performance and range. The Sport mode, on the other hand, provides enhanced throttle response but may result in a slightly reduced range.
The scooter will also include on-board navigation and music control features, adding to the convenience and enjoyment of the ride. The digital instrument cluster will display critical information such as battery charge, range left, speed, and mode selection.
Market Position and Competition
With the launch of the Activa Electric, Honda aims to capture a significant share of the growing electric two-wheeler market in India. The scooter will compete with other popular electric scooters such as the Ather Rizta, Ola S1, Hero Vida, TVS iQube, and Bajaj Chetak. It will be interesting to see what the price of the new electric Activa will be as the competition has already captured a big chunk of the market. Also, would this eat into the sales of the petrol Activa?
