BMW Motorrad has unveiled its latest addition to the Heritage range, the R 12 S cafe-racer. This stunning bike pays homage to the iconic R90S of the 1970s, blending retro styling with modern technology. The R 12 S is set to captivate motorcycle enthusiasts with its distinctive design and advanced features.
Design and Styling
The motorcycle features a striking two-tone paint scheme, with Lava Orange and white accents. The bike is adorned with a bat fairing, a smoked bubble visor, and a seat cowl, giving it a classic cafe-racer look. The design also includes bar-end mirrors and a left-side side-mounted twin exhaust setup, adding to its visual appeal.
R 12 S Performance and Powertrain
Under the retro garb lies a modern powerhouse: a 1,170cc boxer-twin engine that produces 109 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. The engine is linked to a six-speed gearbox and a shaft drive system, ensuring smooth and efficient performance. The bike offers three riding modes – Rain, Road, and Dynamic – along with electronic rider aids such as traction control, hill start control, and heated grips.
Technology and Comfort
The cockpit of the new cafe racer features classic round clocks paired with a modern digital display, providing a perfect blend of old and new. The bike is equipped with fully adjustable USD front forks and a rear monoshock, ensuring a comfortable ride. The braking system includes a twin 310mm front disc and a single 265mm rear disc, mounted on 17-inch wheels.
R 12 S Market Launch and Pricing
The R 12 S is expected to go on sale in 2025, with prices yet to be announced. However, it is anticipated to come at a premium over the R 12 nineT, which starts at approximately Rs. 18.26 lakh in the USA. The bike will be available in select markets, with a keen interest from motorcycle enthusiasts looking for a blend of retro charm and modern performance.
