BMW has launched the ‘Sport’ petrol variant of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe in the Indian market at the price of INR 37.90 lakh ex-showroom, India. The new 220i Sport trim is locally produced at the BMW Group Plant in Chennai and the bookings for the BMW 220i Sport are now open at all BMW dealerships across the country.
Powertrain
Powering the BMW 220i Sport is a BMW Efficient Lightweight construction 2.0-litre four-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo engine that produces 190 Hp of power and 280 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 7-Speed Steptronic Sport transmission with double clutch, shift-by-wire gear selector switch, gear selector paddles on the steering wheel, Launch Control with imagery in the instrument cluster, Expert Functions for race track driving and fast gear shifting in specific driving modes.
The 2 Series Gran Coupe model also features BMW Driving Experience Control Modes – ECO PRO, Comfort and Sport as well as Servotronic Steering and engine control and brake interventions during cornering, enhancing the curve neutrality and agility of the vehicle. The powertrain is also equipped with BMW Efficient Dynamics which includes Intelligent Automatic Start/Stop function and Brake Energy Regeneration.
Design & Styling
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe comes with stylish and athletic aesthetics with sculpted surfaces and character lines that play a game of light and shadow, stretched silhouette, four frameless doors and gets a sporty, low and wide stance. The front fascia features the signature BMW kidney grille, BMW four-eyed face with slightly angled LED headlamps with BMW twin hexagonal design light signatures on the front and aerodynamically optimized 3D two-part L-shaped design LED taillamps.
The entry-level Sport trim does not get the bar-style LED fog light option available on higher variants. However, the 220i Sport comes with 17-inch dual-tone light-alloy wheels with a double-spoke design and is available in 5 exterior paint options – Alpine White, Black Saphire Metallic, Melbourne Red Metallic, Seaside Blue Metallic and Storm Bay Metallic

The BMW 220i Sport features ‘Illuminated Brooklyn’ interior trim with the choice of Sensatec Oyster and Sensatec Black upholstery, sport seats for driver and front passenger, leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-wrapped gear lever, analogue instruments cluster with 5.1inch MID, an 8.8-inch high-resolution central display with Touch Functionality, Navigation, – iDrive Touch with handwriting recognition, Voice control, BMW Virtual Assistant activated by voice command “Hey BMW”, Rear View Camera, Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant, Cruise control with braking function, panoramic glass roof etc.
Safety Features
The 220i also comes with all the bell and whistles in terms of safety such as six airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist, Attentiveness Assistance, Three-point seat belts at all seats with pyrotechnic belt tensioners on the front, Side-impact protection, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) & Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), ISOFIX child seat mounting, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, etc.
