Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Benda has patented the BD250-3B, a quarter-liter roadster featuring a Boxer engine, a rare configuration in the 250cc segment. The patent images, revealed by the Chinese Patent Office, showcase a water-cooled Boxer twin-cylinder engine, marking a significant departure from conventional single-cylinder and parallel-twin setups.
Benda BD250-3B engine and performance
The BD250-3B’s Boxer engine follows a horizontal cylinder layout, similar to BMW Motorrad’s larger displacement models. The water cooling system ensures optimal thermal management, enhancing efficiency and performance. While official power figures remain undisclosed, estimates suggest an output of 25–30 hp, making it competitive within the entry-level cruiser segment.
Benda BD250-3B chassis and design
The BD250-3B features a steel tube frame, with the engine serving as a structural component. The aluminum rear swingarm is mounted directly to the Boxer engine, a unique engineering approach. The motorcycle also incorporates hydraulic power transfer, redirecting power from the longitudinally mounted crankshaft to the chain sprocket.
Market position and rivals
Benda has gained recognition for its cruiser and roadster designs, often inspired by legacy brands. The BD250-3B’s Boxer engine sets it apart from competitors like the Honda Rebel 300, Royal Enfield Meteor 350, and Keeway V302C. The company is known for aggressive pricing, making its models more accessible than premium European counterparts.
Expected Launch and Pricing
The BD250-3B is expected to debut in 2026, with pricing likely to be significantly lower than Boxer-equipped motorcycles from BMW. If Benda follows its existing strategy, the BD250-3B could be introduced in India via Keeway, similar to the V302C cruiser.
