Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland has achieved the design excellence award for its Light Commercial Vehicle, the “Bada Dost”. Presented by the CII Design Excellence Awards, the four-wheeler commercial vehicle has won the ‘Mobility Design: Four wheelers commercial vehicle’. The CII Design Excellence Awards has been instituted by the CII to acknowledge and celebrate Indian design and innovation.
This organization strives to create new paradigms of Indian design whilst promoting the unique amalgamation of traditional with contemporary design. In 2021, the CII enlisted Japan as its partner country while conducting the CII Design Excellence Awards. Ashok Leyland’s “BADA DOST” builds upon the strong foundation created by the DOST brand with its reliability, mileage, and comfort.
2021 Ashok Leyland BADA DOST: Design Details
Ashok Leyland has designed and built the BADA DOST as a complete package that connects people and businesses together. The four-wheeler LCV features a unique front end with projector headlamps, stylish turn-indicators, and body lines on the doors. The LCV sports 12-inch steel wheels with a storage bed at the back with a payload capacity of 1860 Kg. The BADA DOST is available in i4 and i3 variants where the payload capacity on the latter is 1400 Kg.
2021 Ashok Leyland BADA DOST: Technical Specs
Powering the i3 and i4 variants of the BADA DOST is a BS6 compliant, 1.5-liter, three-cylinder diesel engine. The engine produces 80 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque which allows the LCV to carry extra loads. In terms of body length, the i3 variant of the BADA DOST measures 2860mm, whereas the i4 measures 2951mm.
The LCV features a 5-speed manual gearbox with an Overslung Parabolic, 2 Stage front suspension, and power-assisted steering. For braking performance, Ashok Leylands has equipped the BADA DOST with front ventilated discs and rear drum brakes. The BADA DOST sports an ARAI certification for being a 3-seater (1 Driver + 2 Passengers) and a 23.2% Gradeability. The LCV sports a top speed of 80 Kph, a loading platform height of 945mm, and a 50-litre fuel tank.
