The German carmaker’s performance division has unveiled BMW M2. This is likely the last internal combustion engine (ICE) car by the BMW M division.
The new M2 will head against the likes of the Porsche 718 Cayman and the Alpine A110. BMW says this M2 is the likely successor to the epic 2002 Turbo sports coupe. Further, the M2 has been the M division’s most successful model selling over 60,000 units.
BMW M2 Design
The M2 has a radical new front fascia with squared-off kidney grille and lower air inlets. A big air dam finished in gloss black sits below the bumper. It gets a body kit with a rear spoiler, GT-style rear diffuser and quad-tip exhaust.
One optional upgrade includes a carbon-fibre roof – a weight saving of 6 kg, resulting in a lower centre of gravity. The other upgrade is the M Race Track package, which includes carbon-fibre bucket seats and removes the standard 250 km/h speed limiter, which gives the M2 a 285 km/h top speed.
BMW M2 Engine
The new M2 gets an updated version of the 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder from the M3 and the M4 sedans. However, in the M2, this B58 engine makes 460 BHP and 550 Nm. The 0-100 km/h time is a blistering 4.1 seconds.
However, the main headline is that the M2 is also offered with a manual gearbox.
BMW M2 launch in India
Last time around, we got the Competition version of the M2 in India. However, this time around, BMW will release only one version of the M2 sedan. It is not yet clear if we will get this car on our shores, but we can always keep our fingers crossed.
