Written by News Team

KTM has finally unveiled the full details of the much-anticipated 390 SMC R, a supermoto motorcycle that debuted at EICMA 2024.

KTM 390 SMC R – Details

The 390 SMC R is based on the same platform as the popular KTM 390 Duke, featuring a 399cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 46 PS and 39Nm. The motorcycle is 11kg lighter than the 390 Duke, weighing in at 154kg. This weight reduction is achieved through a smaller 9-litre fuel tank and other design optimizations. The motorcycle gets a fully-adjustable WP Apex USD fork with 230mm of travel and a monoshock that can be tuned for compression and rebound.

Braking is handled by a 320mm front and 230mm rear disk brake setup, similar to the 390 Duke. The 390 SMC R also features 17-inch wheels on both ends, equipped with Michelin Power 5 tyres for excellent grip. Additionally, the motorcycle comes with switchable ABS and a 4-inch TFT display for enhanced ride information.

India Launch Confirmed

Despite initial doubts about its arrival in India, the excitement around the 390 SMC R has grown after its showcase at IBW 2024. Bajaj, KTM’s partner in India, is now considering launching the 390 SMC R in the country. The motorcycle would offer a unique blend of sporty riding and the ability to handle rough road surfaces, potentially filling a niche in the Indian market.

The 390 SMC R is expected to be manufactured at KTM’s Chakan plant, alongside other 390 models. While the launch date is yet to be confirmed, enthusiasts are hopeful that the bike will be available in limited numbers.

Our Thoughts

The KTM 390 SMC R brings a fresh and exciting option to the Indian market. Its combination of lightweight design, powerful engine, and supermoto capabilities makes it a compelling choice for riders looking for agility and performance. If launched, it could pave the way for more supermoto bikes in India, offering a new riding experience for enthusiasts.
