Toyota Bharat has issued a recall for some units of the Yaris and the Etios sedan due to a potential issue with the seat belt assembly. A total of 47 units of both the sedans combined have been affected.
What is the recall for?
The Japanese carmaker said that seatbelt assemblies on cars sold between August 18 and September 27, 2022 have been found defective. Toyota has also reported that there have been no failures of the said component till now. That said, the company is erring on the side of caution and has decided to replace the affected part free of cost as it could affect the safety of the occupants.
Owners of the said cars would be contacted by the company as well as the dealerships to inform them about this recall. Customers can also take their cars to the nearest Toyota authorised service centre to get an inspection done. If found faulty, the necessary parts would be replaced at no cost to the owners.
Toyota Yaris and Etios
The Yaris sedan’s production was stopped back in 2021. Yaris made its debut back in May 2018 but the car did not make progress in terms of its sales numbers.
The Etios was discontinued back in April 2020. The brand did not upgrade the Etios range to BS6 emission compliance as it would have been too expensive and the model did not do well in the Indian market.
Upcoming Innova Hycross
Meanwhile, all attention is now on the upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross. This will be offered with a petrol strong hybrid powertrain. There will be no diesel option on offer. While the car will be unveiled on November 25, the price announcement is expected only by the 2023 Auto Expo. It will also be sold via Maruti’s Nexa outlets as a Maruti-badged car, just like the other models the two Japanese carmakers are collaborating on.
