Maruti Suzuki has globally unveiled its latest SUV, the Grand Vitara, in India. The new SUV will also sit at the top of its NEXA range. Toyota and Maruti Suzuki jointly developed the new SUV. Toyota earlier unveiled its iteration of the model, and now Maruti Suzuki has unveiled theirs.
20th July 2022 also marks the 7th anniversary of NEXA in India. The brand unveiled the new Grand Vitara as a part of the anniversary celebrations. The brand also claims the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is India’s most fuel-efficient SUV. With its hybrid powertrains, distinct exterior and segment-leading features, the brand say the all-new 2022 Grand Vitara is set to disrupt the SUV market in India.
Along with this, the brand also announced NEXAVerse. The new platform aims to new-age AR and VR experience for its customers. Customers will also be able to book the all-new Grand Vitara using the NEXAVerse.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – Exterior Highlights
The latest NEXA offering continues with the brand’s ‘Crafted Futurism’ design language. At the front, the 2022 Grand Vitara features an imposing high-gloss black and dark chrome ‘NEXWave Grille’. The slim 3-element LED DRLs also double up as the turn-signal indicators. Below the DRLs, houses the main headlight housing. The Intelligent Electric Hybrid variants will also come with a ‘Fervent Dark Chrome’ finish for the front grille. On the other hand, the Progressive Smart Hybrid variants will get a ‘Rich Chrome’ finish. Thus, bringing a sense of individuality.
The side of the Grand Vitara is familiar to the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. It gets a bold stance, sweeping shoulders, squared-off wheel arches and 17-inch precision-cut alloy wheels. At the back, the 3-element sweeping LED taillight complements the LED DRLs up front. The taillight’s centre houses the Suzuki logo and Grand Vitara badging below. Lower down, the design is similar to that of the Toyota Hyryder.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – Interior Highlights
The interior of the Grand Vitara will sport a similar design language to that of the Toyota Hyryder. However, it will get a few NEXA-specific touches to help it stand out. The instrument panel of the Grand Vitara will feature bold sweeping elements. The Intelligent Electric Hybrid variants will get black faux leather and champagne gold accents with matching stitch patterns. Meanwhile, the Smart Hybrid variants will get Bordeaux faux leather with high luminant silver accents. Both trim lines will also get piano black finishes across the cabin. Further enhancing the interior ambience is the panoramic sunroof with a class-leading opening area.
The Grand Vitara will also get a host of features. At the centre of the dashboard sits a 9-inch Smart Play Pro+ touchscreen infotainment display. The system features an in-built voice assistant and wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The 360 View Camera also comes with dynamic reverse guidelines and approaching object detection. Meanwhile, the Coloured Head-Up Display offers important information in the driver’s line of sight. The 2022 Grand Vitara also gets a full-digital instrument cluster.
Other features include ventilated front seats and a Qi-certified wireless charger. The wireless charger features an LED indicator and unique features like overheating protection and a device left alert system. The Grand Vitara will also come with 40+ connected features through Suzuki Connect. Customers can access the connected tech functions through the Suzuki Connect App, Smartwatch and Alexa Skill.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – Powertrain
Like the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the Grand Vitara also comes with mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid powertrains. The former will use the K-Series 1.5-litre Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine. This engine produces 103.06 PS at 6,000 rpm and 136.9 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. The mild hybrid option will also feature Idle Stop Start and Brake Energy Regeneration with Torque Assist.
Furthermore, the brand will also offer its famed Suzuki AllGrip Select AWD system. The AllGrip Select will also support user-selectable modes. These include – Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock Drive modes. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The Progressive Smart Hybrid models return a fuel efficiency of 21.11 kmpl with the manual and 20.58 kmpl with automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the AllGrip MT variant will return a fuel efficiency of 19.38 kmpl.
At the same time, the Grand Vitara will also come with a Toyota-sourced strong hybrid powertrain. Maruti Suzuki is calling it the Intelligent Electric Hybrid. The dual power system features an electric motor and an internal combustion engine working together. The strong hybrid engine uses a 1.5-litre engine which makes 92.45 PS at 5,500 rpm. Combined with the electric motor, it makes a total of 115.56 PS of power and 122 Nm of torque. The self-charging hybrid vehicle also comes with multiple drive modes. These include – EV, Eco, Normal and Power. The strong hybrid will only come with an e-CVT transmission. Maruti Suzuki also claims it will offer best-in-class fuel efficiency of 27.97 kmpl. It also makes the 2022 Grand Vitara India’s most fuel-efficient SUV.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – Safety Features
Maruti Suzuki has equipped the Grand Vitara with NEXA Safety Shield. Under this, it offers a host of active and passive safety features. The Grand Vitara gets ESP with Hill Hold Assist, 3-point seat belts for all seats and rear disc brakes as standard across the range. Furthermore, the AllGrip variants will also feature Hill Descent Control. Other safety features include 6 airbags and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
