KTM has launched the much-awaited 2nd Generation RC 200 in the Indian market. The brand has introduced the motorcycle at the price of INR 2.09 lakh ex-showroom, which is not a far cry from the predecessor. Considering the fact that the new Generation KTM RC 200 is entirely new except for the engine. The bike comes with a completely new design, new features, updates to the aerodynamic department and electronics. The brand has also managed to lower the weight of the motorcycle significantly. All this with just a price hike of around INR 1,000 is a pretty good deal.
Now we got the chance to thoroughly test the 2022 KTM RC 200 around Bajaj’s Test Track in Chakan. This allowed us to learn about the new handling dynamics and the new aerodynamics. The track experience also gave us the chance to test the power of the motorcycle, the design as well as the features. Gen-2 KTM RC 200 – Design Highlights
The Gen-2 KTM RC 200 comes with an entirely new design. According to KTM, the design draws inspiration from the KTM RC16; a prototype Grand Prix racing motorcycle developed to race in MotoGP. The new motorcycle also boasts of being aerodynamic than its predecessor. It features a wider front fascia along with a bubble style racing windscreen. The KTM RC 200 also comes with sharp side panels and a newly designed bulbous fuel tank which also holds more fuel than before.
The motorcycle also gets new upgrades to the ergonomics department. The bike gets new seats for both rider and pillion with new technical material. The clip-on handlebars have also been raised to give the rider a comfortable position for day to day street riding. The position also allows the rider to tuck behind the windscreen on the track. The footpegs come with a rear set position that enables the rider to dive deep into the corner confidently without scraping the racer blocks.
Gen-2 KTM RC 200 – Features
The new KTM RC 200 comes with features such as an LCD dashboard and all-LED lighting. The bike features a new LED headlight and LED DRLs. The front fascia also integrates the LED turn indicators. The bike also comes with a larger 13.7-litre fuel tank extending the motorcycle’s range. KTM also employs lightweight, high strength wheels and a stiffer hollow front axle.
Gen-2 KTM RC 200 – Technical Specifications
Powering the Gen-2 KTM RC 200 is the same 200cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. The BS6 compliant engine produces 25 PS of power and 19.2 Nm of torque, providing 156 PS of power per ton. The engine comes with a 6-speed gearbox and a curved radiator that ensures faster engine cooling. The machine weighs 160 kg at the kerb, thanks to a bolt-on subframe and alloy wheels. The bike rides on a new stiffer, lighter split-steel trellis frame with upside-down front suspension and a monoshock on the rear. Braking duties are now handled by a larger 320mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc.
