Written by Nizam Shaikh

Hyundai has officially revealed the interior and exterior design sketch of the Alcazar 7-seater SUV giving us a glimpse of what to expect in the near future when the much-awaited car is launched in the Indian market.

Exterior Design & Styling

The Hyundai Alcazar is based on the popular Creta SUV but comes with a new exterior design especially on the rear end, an extra row of seats and changes to the interior. The brand has now revealed the design sketch of the exterior of the SUV which reveals a completely new rear-end design, new LED tail light signatures, a new skid plate on the rear bumper. The haunch also appears to be longer than the 5-seater Creta and the overhangs also appear larger to accommodate the extra seats in the back. The sides show the same character lines that run across the body of the Creta but the alloy wheel design appears to be new. The front is likely to be similar to the Creta SUV but the brand will add distinguishing factors such as a new grille and new elements on the front bumper to match with the rear.

Interior Design

The Hyundai Alcazar will come with seats for 6/7 occupants based on a Wing-Surrounded architecture. The brand has added an extra row of seats in the rear which is likely to be comfortable for two passengers. The middle row is likely to come with a three-passenger bench seat or captain seats as revealed in the design sketches. In the captain seat configuration, the Alcazar features a centre armrest between the two captain seats, this leads us to believe that the captain seats will come with a full tumble function to allow easy ingress and egress to the third row. The middle row seats will also get an adjustable slide and recline. The armrest in between the captain seats incorporates bottle/cup holders and a cubby hole that is likely to come with a wireless smartphone charging feature. The front cabin design is similar to the Creta SUV.

Powertrain

The Hyundai Alcazar is likely to share the powertrain from the Hyundai Creta which comes with – a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. The SUV will also come with gearbox options such as a 6-speed manual or an IVT continuously variable transmission, a 6-speed torque converter type gearbox and a 7-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Automatic Transmission).
