European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) has published its report for the 2020 Land Rover Defender and the SUV has garnered 5 Star rating for safety. The 5-door version large off-road capable SUV weighing 2408kg in the 2.0-litre Diesel SE trim in the Right Hand Driven avatar was tested at the Euro NCAP.
The Land Rover Defender 110 crash-tested at the facility featured driver and passenger front airbag, seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters on all seat belts, side head airbags, side chest airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, passenger airbag deactivation and seatbelt reminders. Furthermore, the Land Rover Defender features Automatic Emergency Braking for vulnerable road users as well as other vehicles, speed assistance system and lane assist system fitted as standard.
According to the Euro NCAP report, in the Adult Occupant Protection test, the passenger compartment continued to remain stable in the offset frontal test, scoring 11.7 out of 16 points for the Mobile Progressive Deformable Barrier and Full Width Rigid Barrier which also revealed that the protection was good to adequate for all body critical body regions, except for the chest of the rear passenger. The lateral impact protection was rated 15 out of 16 and the rear impact test showed 3.8 out of 4 points. The SUV was also tested for rescue and extrication and scored 2 out of 2 points, totalling 32.5 points and scoring 85% in Adult Occupant Protection.
For the Child Occupant Protection, the Land Rover Defender 110 scored 24 points out of 24 gaining full marks in the frontal impact and lateral impact departments. The test was performed on a 6-year-old child dummy seated in a Britax Römer Kidfix XP SICT and a 10-year-old child dummy seated in a Graco booster basic Child Restraint System (CRS) with on-board ISOFIX CRS anchorage system and for Child Occupant Protection the SUV scored 41.7 points which is a score of 85%. Vulnerable road users also scored 38.4 points which is a score of 71%.
