Ultraviolette begins testing high performance F-77 electric motorcycles

Written by Akhil Dalvi

Bangalore-based EV manufacturer Ultraviolette has begun the Advanced Performance testing of its high-performance F-77 electric motorcycle. Using a camouflaged test mule of the F-77, Ultraviolette is conducting the test at an undisclosed airstrip. The brand’s latest video showcases the bike being tested on the parameters of its acceleration, stability, handling, and braking. Using an array of advanced data logging sensors, the brand is able to gather mechanical motion data.

Quantitive Test Using Advanced Testing Using State of the Art Sensors

In the video, Ultraviolette also reveals the use of LVDT (linear variable differential transformer) sensors to test the bike’s suspension capabilities. The LVDT sensors are capable of converting mechanical motion into rectilinear motion. This allows the engineers to calculate the working of the suspension system and tweak the dynamics of the motorcycle in different road conditions. The brand uses an array of accelerometers which enables the engineers to know what the bike is doing with reference to space and time.

Stress, Strain and Thermal Testing

In addition to this, stress and strain tests of the brakes are also part of testing thanks to heavy braking to calculate stopping performance. The team is shown adding sudden jerks to the handlebar while riding to test the bike’s stability and body control. The brand will also be able to further refine the chassis and the swingarm using the data for the strain gauge, strengthening different components. Engineers are also using several various temperature sensors to build a thermal map of the motorcycle. The telemetry data from the sensors will allow Ultraviolette to tweak the electric motorcycle’s performance.

Qualitative Tests

The development mule of the F-77 will also undergo various qualitative tests. This will include slalom tests, acceleration tests for 0-40 kmph, 0-60 kmph, 0-80 kmph and top speed. The brand will also test the motorcycle for the dynamic tests as well as other safety performance tests, such as brake dive and braking at different loads.

We expect the brand to soon begin the road testing of the Ultraviolette F-77 on public roads. The brand will also unveil the bike in the Indian market soon after all the tests are complete. The production of the Ultraviolette F-77 is likely to begin from Q1 of 2022.
