In this article, we compare the Triumph Speed 400 and Bajaj Dominar 400 motorcycles. Triumph Speed 400 is the result of Bajaj Auto and Triumph Motorcycles’ partnership. The aim is to enter the mid-size motorcycle segment in India. The partnership will take on the established Royal Enfield. The collaboration is a long-term, non-equity alliance, with both companies working together to develop and engineer mid-size motorcycles.

As part of the partnership, Bajaj Auto is responsible for sourcing and manufacturing these motorcycles at its facility in Chakan, located near Pune. The motorcycles developed under this alliance will fall in the price range of around INR 2 lakh. Thus aiming to attract customers in the growing mid-size motorcycle market in India.

Design

The Triumph Speed 400 has a neo-retro theme, while the Bajaj Dominar 400 has a power cruiser design. The choice between the two designs depends on individual preferences.

Powertrain

The Triumph Speed 400 is powered by a 398.15cc liquid-cooled engine, producing 39.5 BHP and 37.5Nm of torque. The Bajaj Dominar 400 comes equipped with a 373.3cc liquid-cooled engine, delivering 39.5 BHP and 35 Nm of torque.

Gearbox

Both motorcycles come with a 6-speed gearbox and Slip & Clutch technology for smooth cruising.

Chassis & Suspension

The Bajaj Dominar 400 features a beam-type perimeter frame, while the Triumph Speed 400 has a tubular steel perimeter frame with a bolt-on rear subframe. Suspension duties are handled by USD forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear for both motorcycles.

Dimensions & Weight

The Bajaj Dominar 400 is 2,156mm long, 863mm wide, and 1,243mm tall, with a wheelbase of 1,453mm. It weighs 193 kg. The Triumph Speed 400 measures 2,056mm in length, 795mm in width, and 1,075mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1,377mm. It is 23kg lighter than the Dominar 400.

Brakes

The Bajaj Dominar 400 comes with a single 320mm disc brake at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear. The Triumph Speed 400 features a smaller 300mm disc at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear.

Price

Bajaj Dominar 400 price in Delhi is INR 2,29,781 (ex-showroom price). Whereas the Triumph Speed 400 price in Delhi is INR 2,33,000 (ex-showroom).
