Triumph Motorcycles America, Ltd. is recalling specific units of the 2022 Triumph Trident 660 in the North American market. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2022 Triumph Trident 660 may have an issue with the side stand, which may cause the motorcycle to fall and cause injury. Due to the unstable stand, which may bend when the motorcycle is parked, it may also cause injury to another passerby. Reports also suggest that Triumph India also recalls the Trident 660 in the Indian market due to the issue. However, the exact number of units that are part of the recall are not revealed.
2022 Triumph Trident 660 – Problem Description
Triumph has announced that 314 units of the Trident 660 could be affected, out of which 1% of motorcycles are suspected of the defect. NHTSA reveals that the recall population was based upon a review of factory records. Reports suggest that the use of incorrect raw material specifications may be the cause of the recall part. Due to the incorrect material specification, the side stand may bend under the weight of the motorcycle to an angle of lean beyond its designed angle of lean. Furthermore, the lean angle will gradually increase over time, and the use of the side stand on affected motorcycles. The said component (STRUCTURE:MOTORCYCLE: KICKSTAND/CENTER STAND) is manufactured by Fujin Corporation PVT LTD., in Faridabad, India.
2022 Triumph Trident 660 – Remedy
Triumph dealerships will be replacing the side stand, free of charge to the customer. The NHTSA recall acknowledgement confirms that owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by February 24, 2022. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline or go to the official website for further queries. In addition to this, Triumph owners could also Triumph customer service to inquire about the recall. It is also important to note that the remedy component is manufactured to correct material specifications. Triumph corrected the recall condition in production in May 2021.
