Toyota will no longer offer the limited edition Fortuner TRD in India. A quick visit to the Toyota India’s official website confirms that there is no sign of the special edition of the Fortuner there. Fortuner TRD was released in the month of August 2020 to reignite interest and grab the attention of the public.

The differentiating features of the Fortuner TRD from its regular counterpart variant are; dual-tone exteriors, revamped new bumpers, black alloy wheels and sporty front grille. The interior is finished in all black to give it a sporty look and comes equipped with the latest electronics like wireless charging, tyre pressure monitoring system, digital video recorder, a 360-degree camera and more.

This limited edition SUV from one of the world’s largest car manufacturer was powered by 2.8-litre 4-pot diesel motor which had a power output of 175 BHP and 450 Nm of torque. The gearbox option was a 6-speed automatic transmission which came equipped with paddle shifters for convenient and quick gear shifts. There were two variants on sale; 4×2 AT and 4×4 AT and the prices were INR 34.98 lakhs and INR 36.88 lakhs respectively (ex-showroom Delhi).

The regular Fortuner is offered in 6 variants, 4 for diesel and 2 for petrol. The petrol motor is 2.7-litre naturally aspirated making 166 PS of power and 245 Nm of torque. The diesel is the same as in TRD which is certified by ARAI to give a fuel efficiency of 15.04 kmpl whereas the petrol motor is rated at 10.01 kmpl.

There are rumours about the launch of the Fortuner facelift sometime next year and also there are some reports suggesting that Toyota is planning to launch the Fortuner Legender as well. When launched, the Fortuner Legender will be positioned above the regular Fortuner with some added off-road capabilities and a differently tuned engine. The INR 40 lakh SUV segment has always been a 2 horse race between Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in the but with the introduction of MG Gloster potential buyers have a third option for now.
