Tata Harrier, the H5X SUV concept which was revealed earlier this year is easily the most awaited car launch on this year. While the brand has revealed that the commercial launch of this Harrier SUV will happen in early 2019, the promotional activities have already begun. Rumours were doing the rounds that bookings will open soon, but no official communication has been shared yet.
Now, the latest reports suggest that the Harrier SUV will be priced between INR 16 – 21 lakh, on-road. This positions the Harrier in between the Hyundai Creta and the Jeep Compass. And this is justified, as the Hyundai Creta will be slightly smaller in scale compared to the Harrier and the Jeep is positioned as a premium 5-seater SUV.
Powering the Tata Harrier will be a 2.0L, 4-cylinder, 140 HP motor coupled to a 6-speed automatic & manual gearbox option. It is unclear if this SUV will get the AWD system similar to what we see in the Hexa. But the lower variants will most definitely be FWD 2WD cars. The diesel engine of the Harrier, the 2.0L block is sourced from the Jeep Compass and Tata have christened it as KRYOTEC. The 6-speed automatic gearbox is sourced from Hyundai which is used in the Creta. So, the pricing slotting between the Creta & the Compass sounds good right?
Considering the success of the Tata Nexon compact-SUV, the sentiment looks positive for the Harrier SUV. But what will happen to the Hexa once the Harrier goes on sale? Because a 7-seater version of the Harrier is also on the cards for the near future.
