Just after the launch of the new-generation Tiguan R-Line in India, Volkswagen is preparing to debut a new three-row SUV Tayron, which will compete with the Toyota Fortuner. Read its complete details below.

The upcoming Tayron shares its design traits with the Tiguan R-Line to a large extent. Apart from the extended wheelbase, its front fascia, rear, and side profile highlights are like the new Tiguan.

The front design gets connected LED DRL lights with projector headlamps, while the rear is equipped with the new connected wrap-around LED lights.

On the inside, it shares the same design as the Tiguan R-Line. However, the cabin theme is different as it features a black and light silver theme combo.

The third-row seats not only offer additional occupancy, but also add to a total cargo space of 850 litres.

In terms of features, it is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, a 15-inch infotainment screen, touch HVAC controls, tri-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 64-bit ambient lighting, and electric seats with ventilation/heating function, electric tailgate, and more.

Volkswagen also offers the Level 2 ADAS safety on the Tayron. This includes the adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and intervention assist, lane keep assist and monitoring, a 360-degree surround view camera, etc.

Engine and specifications

Powering the Tayron is the new 2.0-litre, TFSI, turbo-petrol engine, which is also used on the new Tiguan.

It is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system, cumulatively generating 204 bhp of power and 320 Nm of peak torque.

Additionally, it can achieve a top speed of more than 200 km/h, as the Tiguan R-Line with the same engine does 229 km/h.

Volkswagen Tayron – India launch and rivals

Volkswagen is likely to introduce the Tayron by the end of this year in India. It will be brought as a CKD (completely knocked down) unit and is likely to be manufactured at the Aurangabad plant of VW.

The primary rival of the Tayron in India will be the Toyota Fortuner. The new Toyota Fortuner is also on its way, which will feature a new strong-hybrid engine.

The estimated launch price of the Tayron SUV is Rs 50 lakh.

Our verdict

Volkswagen has become aggressive in the Indian market lately. It first launched the Tiguan R-Line, and now the Golf GTI hot hatchback is on its way. The Tayron will make a strong case for itself due to its practicality and power.
