Tata Altroz teaser video revealed

Tata Motors has been testing its upcoming premium hatchback, the Altroz across the country and the test mules of the car have been spotted in different parts of India. Now, Tata has released a teaser video of the Altroz hatchback with the car being driven on proving grounds being tested for agility and safety under various driving conditions. The video ends by saying, ‘Tested to own the roads’ and further continues to end with the line, ‘coming soon’. Both of which are quite self-explanatory.

The car was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show a few months ago and the hatchback was well received. It is based on the Tata’s ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture and follows the manufacturers Impact Design 2.0, which is used on the Tata Harrier SUV. The hatchback is expected to feature a mesh grille that integrates with the LED projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, wraparound LED taillights, LED turn indicators, large alloy wheels, and muscular wheel arches.

The interior of the car features a floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, climate control AC, a semi-digital instrument cluster with a large MID, steering mounted controls and more.

The Altroz is expected to be powered by a

  • 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron petrol engine capable of producing 102 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed transmission. A detuned version of the Nexon’s 110 HP of power and 170 Nm of torque.
  • 1.5-litre turbocharged Revotorq diesel producing 110 PS of power and 260 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT gearbox. This engine Is also expected to come in a lower state of tune.

In terms of safety, the hatchback is expected to get ABS, EBD, CSC, seat belt reminder on both driver and front passenger, over speed alert, reverse parking sensors and a driver side airbag as a standard part of the pack. Many of these features are mandatory as per new safety regulations.

The Tata Altroz will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Honda Jazz. The hatchback is expected to be priced between INR 5.5 lakh and INR 8.5 lakh ex-showroom.
