Ford began the development of its own race car in 1963 to beat Ferrari at the coveted 24 Hours of Le Mans. In less than a year, Ford unveiled the GT prototype (GT/101) at the 1964 New York International Auto Show. Now, Ford has unveiled the pre-production prototype of the Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition'. The 2022 Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition' pays tribute to the original Ford GT, which became America's only Le Mans-winning supercar with wins 1966 to 1969, and again in 2016. The original inspiration, the 1964 Ford GT, made its debut at the New York International Auto Show on April 3, 1964. The original and the only remaining 1964 Ford GT prototype, GT/105, still wearing the original livery, made its comeback at the Monterey Car Week, sharing the spotlight with the 2022 Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition. Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition - Livery and Exposed Carbon Fibre The 2022 Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition comes finished in the Wimbledon White paint with Antimatter Blue graphics. The car also features an over-the-roof triple racing stripe. Also, the GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition comes with exposed carbon fibre components, including 20-inch Antimatter Blue-painted carbon fibre wheels. The exposed Carbon Fibre parts include a front splitter, side sills, mirror stalks, engine louvres, and a rear diffuser. All the exposed Carbon Fibre parts are finished in gloss. The car also gets Brembo brake callipers lacquered in silver and black graphics. The car also features black lug nuts for aesthetics. Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition - Carbon Fibre Interiors The Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition also comes with carbon fibre parts into the cabin as well. The car gets carbon fibre door sills, lower A-pillars and a console. The GT also gets matte carbon fibre registers and Lightspeed Blue Alcantara-wrapped carbon fibre seats featuring silver stitching. The seating surfaces and head restraints also come with an embossed GT logo. The instruments panel is wrapped in Ebony leather and Lightspeed Blue Alcantara. While appliques on the instruments panel are finished in Antimatter Blue shade. The same Antimatter Blue features on the seat X-Brace and door register bezels, matching the alloy wheels. The car's steering comes wrapped in Ebony Alcantara with Black stitching, and the paddles shifters come with a polished finish. Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition - Engine and Availability Powering the Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition is a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 motor that produces 656 Hp of power and 746 Nm of torque. The powertrain can propel the car from 0-96 kmph in just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 350 kmph. The brand has announced that the Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition is available for order for approved Ford GT customers.
