Skoda Kylaq sales to end Kushaq SUV in India soon?

Even after its presence in India for more than 25 years, Skoda is still not able to figure out the sweet spot of the Indian car market. Its latest and most affordable product, Kylaq, is proof of that. But, how?

After analysing the sales figures of the Kylaq and Kushaq for the past six months, it is clear that the Kylaq compact SUV has clearly won a lot of hearts instantly.

Last 6 months sales Kushaq Kylaq
October 2024 2,213
November 2024 1,524
December 2024 2,465
January 2025 (Kylaq launched) 1,371 1,242
Feb 2025 1,035 3,636
March 2025 897 5,327

The company sold 5,327 units of the Kylaq alone in March 2025, which is excellent compared to the 897 units of the Kushaq. But why this trend?

See, the Indian market is largely dominated by SUV buyers. Before Kylaq, Kushaq was the only option in the SUV segment for Skoda fanatics. However, Kushaq has been less on space and high on price tag since its launch.

Kylaq

The Kylaq, on the other hand, is more localised and made for the budget-oriented segment, surprisingly offering more space and the same powertrain option at a much lower price.

In fact, Kylaq’s top-end 1.0 TSI with 6-AT gearbox will cost a little north of Rs 15 lakh (OTR). Meanwhile, the same for Kushaq is above Rs 18 lakh (OTR).

Moreover, the introductory price tag of Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for Kylaq is a daytime loot for buyers. Therefore, the new shift in sales has happened ever since the launch of Kylaq.

A lot of Kushaq’s buyers, who were earlier planning for a 1.0 TSI motor, have opted for Kylaq due to its affordability and identical design as well as more cabin space.

Our conclusion

The declining sales of Kushaq might not be a concern for Kylaq lovers, but it will create a crunch for Skoda in the mid-size SUV segment, which has better sales potential. If this trend keeps growing, Kushaq might get phased out in the coming years.
